Along the line where the trim would go (my car did not have any trim when I got it), at both the latch end and the hinge end of the door, there are 2 holes (see photo). One small and one that is larger. I assumed that the big ones are where someone pulled the trim off and damaged the holes and then drilled a new one next to it. Before I go and weld-up one of the holes, I figured I better check with the folks who would know for sure and would confirm or reject my assumption.
Thanks,
Steve M.

I don't know if it helps much but the threaded stud of the OEM retaining clip is 4.0mm wide. Well at least for early trim through 1967. I don't think that dimension would be different for your later car. I can't imagine someone so dense as to pull the retaining nut through the Sheetmetal if that is even possible. (which created the larger hole and looks significantly larger than 4.0mm)

Ahh, 40mm is an inch and a half! I think you meant 4mm which sound’s about right
I can’t think of anything other than the trim stud that would be in that area. I think you will be fine to weld up the one’s that don’t fit.

Re: Door Holes & Trim
I have yet to purchase trim. My assumption is that the studs that penetrate the door would slide inside the trim to allowing some adjustment for hole locations. Is this not the case? This could be very important!

Re: Door Holes & Trim
The original trim was designed to allow the special trim bolts to slide inside, yes.

My bad, missed the decimal, 4.0. I blame it on a rainy day and Pinot Noir.theunz wrote: Mon Feb 19, 2024 6:46 pm Ahh, 40mm is an inch and a half! Re: Door Holes & Trim
Thanks everyone for the response. I feel better about welding up one of the holes.
