'69-70 brackets for backup lights (pictures needed)

Could someone reply with some pictures of the '69-70 brackets for backup lights, preferably with the light attached. Is there also a wire boot over the attachment hole where they mount? Thanks everyone.

Here is a pic of mine that I refurbished. The rubber boots that cover the nut and allow the wiring to come through were all rotted away. I have not found any suitable replacements.

I decided to use a stainless housing halogen light from Demon Tweeks in the UK. You can put the roadster lens on it.

I bought one of each color, one for backup and one for brake since you can mount 2 lights on the back.

Thanks, I’m using similar. I’m looking for good pictures of the OE 69-70 brackets to be sure what I get is correct original. If you have OE bracket pictures that would be helpful.

There is a short one and a long one. As far as I can figure the short one was on the later cars.

I have not tried this, but I know I will have the same issue when I get to the backup light. But kicking around the idea of trying chair leg caps for the boot if I can find the right size. Might need a little rubber cement to keep it place. Possibly use a soldering iron with a large tip to burn through the wire hole

I believe the opposite is true Curtis. I have a 69 that I have owned since 1972 and it has the long brackets. I also have a short bracket that came off a 68 that sat in a field for over 30 years. When I restored my car I mounted the bumper as close to the body as I could and had to mount the long brackets upside down to fit which lowered the reverse lights. Since I only had one short bracket (to my knowledge 68’s had one reverse light while 69’s had two) I simply made two short brackets so I didn’t have to have a gap between the body and the bumper. I am constantly amazed at how many differences there are between model year cars that appear to look the same!

Not surprising. I'm pretty sure my 66 had the long bracket. Datsun, who knows.

Curtis was your 1967 pre drilled for the 2nd back up light? Do you just splice into the original wiring and run the new set of wires over to the 2nd light?

Yes, two sets of holes. Probably for right hand drive. I made a new rear harness set up for reverse light or backup light on either side. You could splice if you want to take the tape loose.

1968 and earlier have the short brackets and only one reverse light, but the car's frames have the mounting holes on both sides (for LH and RH cars) - I've seen one car with three mounting locations. There are specific shapes to the the brackets, but most are bent from being backed up into curbs, fire hydrants, etc. When refurbishing my late car (longer ones), Ross Mullen traced an NOS one he had so I had the exact bend shape.
For the rubber on the top, brake/clutch master cylinder boots work the best. However, I'm restoring some additional and have bought both the chair leg rubber linked to above from home depot and the thinner boots linked to above. I believe the chair leg caps are too tall and will have to be cut. I'll add pics to this post later.

I have a completely refurbished 69/70 set, including fresh zinc replating for the big hollow screw, nut, and washer freshly, good rubber seals and glass, good chrome, with the rubber caps over the wires. Bodies taken down to metal, primered with Eastwood Chassis Black extreme primer and painted with Por 15 top coat gloss black. I can post pics later.
