xterra KD24DE engine intake manifold modification

Post by RGORILLA »

I have installed a KA24De engine from a 04 xterra into my 69 roadster but it has a verticle throttle body that will require me to cut the hood to make room for the throttle body. I have an

intake manifold from a 240sx that I would like to swap in order to avoid cutting the hood. Has anyone done this conversion before? I would appreciate the help.

The intake manifold from the 240sx works.

RGORILLA,

This is a fun swap, lots of low end torque to have fun with. Good luck!

I noticed in your picture that the engine sits very high relative to the firewall (the engine / tail shaft angle looks about right). My guess is that your hood will not close regardless of the intake swap. Your custom engine mounts may be too tall for this application.

I like the headers and steering column set up. What headers are they?

Here's my KA24DE project, which clears, but is close...

I think I saw you on fb. Here’s how mine is going in.

Unfortunately I just realized I never took a photo of the engine all mocked up.

I was finally able to locate an intake from a 240sx but when I installed it I found it hits the alternator. Does anyone have a fix for that?

That will be a very fun swap and you didn't ruin the chassis, well done! The manifold shown by MattK looks like a nice solution, and the alternator can mount on the lower right side (away from the exhaust).

the engine fits good, the headers are just from ebay, nothing special

Would you mind sending a link to the specific headers on eBay? There are many options that pop up and your experience with fitting this set would be helpful to owners with KA24 engines.

Is the header exit at a good height relative to the exhaust holes in the x-frame?

The stock 240sx exhaust manifold will just barely clear the steering shaft without having to modify that (if I recall).
(My plan was to build a header)

The headers fit very well, I used a flexible tubing between the header and the exhaust pipe to allow for engine movement. This is the info on the headers: For 1995-1998 Nissan 240SX S14 KA24 KA24DE JDM Stainless Steel Exhaust Header

I know this is a thread about the intake manifold, but on the exhaust side, the stock KA manifold (with heat shield) works with the unmodified (stock) steering shaft...
