Hi All,
I'm installing a new replacement muffler on my 68 Roadster and was looking for some recommendations for wrap around heat shield material. Trying to keep the exhaust heat out of the cabin.
Thanks

Re: Roadster New Muffler Heat Shield Material
Buy a square of Mr.Gasket 77 exhaust gasket material. Make a 12x 12" plate from thin AL (like .030-.060") Rivet the AL plate to the bottom of the floor board with the MG 77 sandwiched in between the AL and the floorboard- all directly above the muffler. That will be extremely effective. (The AL reflects the radiated heat and the 77 stops direct heat transfer).

Re: Roadster New Muffler Heat Shield Material
I had exhaust work done (long time ago) and then quickly cooked a hole in my carpet behind the passenger seat. ("what is that strange smell...?")
Les Cannaday told me to go back to exhaust shop and have them put 1" spacers between muffler and floorboard, then weld up the pipes, then remove the spacers.
Problem solved.
I like the thinking behind JT's suggestion though, sounds much more proactive and science based. (and yes, Dodge minivans have a ton of heat shields under the hood to be used for the raw stock)
