Datsun Roadsters at Watkins Glen 2023 UPDATE

Once again, we will meet in Watkins Glen, NY on Sept 7, 8 and 9 to celebrate vintage racing and to share the love of our cars.

Thursday Night Sept 7 -5pm-ish. Meet and Greet at The Scale House Brewery in Hector NY. Good Pizza! Here's the food menu https://www.scalehousebrews.com/menu.

Friday Sept 8 - Vintage Grand Prix festival in Watkins Glen - http://grandprixfestival.com/

Come downtown and check out the rides, beer, wine, food, people.

Saturday Sept 9 - Show and Shine at Lakewood Winery at 10 AM. This is followed by a fun run through the Finger Lakes, a BYO picnic, vintage races at Watkins Glen International Raceway,

Dinner will be at the Clute Park Lakeside Pavillion https://www.senecalakeevents.org/pavilion. This web page is not updated- the pavilion is in fact open!

The Pavilion is located at the south end of Seneca Lake on Rt. 414 (near the Walmart). Dinner time still being finialed by it will be sometime between 4PM and 6PM. Dinner will be catered by La Monarka Mexican food. Menu is still being finalized but likely tacos and tamales. These are authentic Mexican dishes (not Americanized). Garden salad and beans and rice will also be served. Bring your own drinks (water, soda, wine, beer, whatever).

We will be offering event polo shirts for sale. They will have an embroidered emblem on the left upper chest. The emblem will be similar to this (details still being finalized)

Cost for dinner is still being finalized. Polo shirt with be $25 for sizes S to XL. A few $ more for larger sizes. We will be sending a Google form for you to use to place dinner and shirt orders via email. If you haven't received an email from me on this event, please PM me your email and I will add you in.

Well, we made it. Hot drive up from Virginia, a little hiding under an overpass to avoid some hail and a minor fuel filter related issue. But we picked up a loud tapping from under the valve cover. Lifter(s)?
Probably not going to do the Glendora run tomorrow if I can’t figure this out. Supposed to be at the Bring a Trailer event at the racetrack on Saturday morning. And of course, they’re expecting me to be back at work Monday. Hope this isn’t too bad.

Well, you’re in the right place if you need help. There’s more roadster owners there per sq mi this weekend than just about anywhere. Maybe just a loose rocker hopefully. Let us know what you find.

Thanks. I think you're right. I've not done much work inside of the engine other than shimming the timing chain tensioner. That still looks good. I didn't adjust the valves when I got the car, I just watched it being done so I don't know how loose the rockers are supposed to feel. But some do feel loose and the wear on the cam doesn't look good in a couple of places.

Unfortunately, the feeler gauges didn't make it into the tool bag so I'm off to the store in Bath. Hopefully we'll be good to go in an hour or so.

Update. Wasn't the rockers. Damn. Might try to get over to the Glen for this evening and/or the track tomorrow. I've got a good resource over there but he's racing. I'll post this video in the tech forum and see where things go.

I looked at the photos in the link that posted, and it is definitely a rocker problem. The lobes in your pictures have abnormal wear and is typical of a bad rocker tearing up the surface of the cam lobe.

Yep, what Dave said... has happened to me. The cam will need to be reground, the rockers replaced (unfortunately, kinda spendy) and possibly some thicker lash caps. The problem did not stop until I replaced the rockers.
