Re-sleeved Dual Brake Master Cylinder missing vital part

Post by roadsterdude1600 »

I sent my Nabco Brake Master Cylinder off to Apple Hydraulics for re-sleeving and rebuilding over a year ago. It came back beautiful, so now I am ready to install and find that they did not return it with the two big bolts in the bottom to attach to the brake lines. Just not there! The nice new nipples are in place, but not the big bolts with the hole for the brake fitting. I said, oh well I'll just grab the ones in the other core dual MC I have. It is a TOKICO and the bolts are not even close in size. The TOKICO bolts are much larger. Am I screwed, or are these bolts available from some source??

Yes. This has actually been several years, and I did not expect they would have anything. They started taking pix of incoming parts a bit after my order. At least that would have proved it came in with the hex bolts. My bad really for not fully inspecting these when I got them back. I guess I will have to find an NABCO core somewhere and buy it for those 2 parts.

Factory components a piece such as this would get brushed with a invisible paint/ stain
,so with a black lite it turns violet then it's clear something was done to it post factory, and if it was ever brushed on ,if it was but the bolt was removed
The SAS ,TPS, screws were on most. many times guys wanted to adjust something ,then it had problems , nope been tamper with not warrant

That looks like a truck/other master cylinder not roadster, so the nuts would likely be tapped for 10mm threads anyway. Not roadster compatible.
Are you trying to use that cylinder in a roadster?

This is what came off the roadster, or at least what I thought I sent off to Apple for resleeving a few years back. It is possible I got something else back, but way too late now to bring it up. Could have been a PO change also. After looking at it, yes it does not look like either the TOCIKO or the aftermarket part shown on parts sites. It looks like maybe a 510 cylinder. I am rebuilding brake lines anyway, so I could use a 510 cylinder and use 10 mm fittings on the cylinder side of my new lines, and that may be what I end up doing. Too bad that I paid $$$ for a resleeve on something that can be purchased new for under $100!! My bad for not looking closer either before or after sending the part off. To be fair, I sent a bunch of calipers, rear wheel cylinders and also a single circuit brake MC all at the same time. Have used most of the parts from that purchase but not this one. I may end up buying a cheap new 510 MC then change out the nuts if they are the same, since this one will last much longer being re-sleeved. Thanks for making me look again!

Hi Mike,
I think I have a 510 cylinder that I don't think I need. I'll look and let you know.
More soon,
Peter
