5 speed
Steve,I just used a 6 inch 2 jaw puller to remove lower countershaft gears.Used a bearing tool to remove bearings that I could get it behind.Bought tool at Harbor Freight for 10 bucks.Just used a drift to remove other bearings.Definately need a vise.I stood on end of countershaft on vise to drive countershaft gears back on with a lead hammer.Brass drift for bearings.

Might want to put in the 5 speed first, see how you like the final drive ratio in your present rear, then go higher or lower in your replacment rear, just a thought. I think the 4 speed rear is a lhigher (numerical) ratio than the 5 speed.
BTW, have an extra drive shaft for sale and all the measurements to chop your crossmember to 5 speed height and use the Chevy urethane trans mount, save big $$.
