Fuel filter transition
I've got an early '68 2000 that seems to have some '67 carryover in a few places. I was wondering when they made the change from the glass to the plastic filters. My car appears to have been built to accept the glass filter (single hole mount), which came with the car when I bought it although the PO had a WIX filter inline. He was sorting out some fuel issues. I'd like to use the glass filter housing if it's appropriate but maybe not if it's not supposed to be there. The valve cover is also the one with the rivet inside the "C" instead of outside. I'm not sure if these parts are original with the car and Datsun was just using what it had available in the parts bins as it transitioned from 67-68 or if this '67 hangover is the result of what was in twice removed PO's shop. Anyone ideas?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Fuel filter transition
Those are attributes of very early 68 cars. I don't know the number of cars that had them, but I would certainly keep them on the car. If you have the tab with the hole instead of the clip, yes, you had the strainer.

Re: Fuel filter transition
Thanks. It is just the hole. No indication of welds for the S shaped clip mount. One of the PO's had bolted a fashioned S with a clip for the plastic filter. I'm not doing a full restoration but I do like to keep it mostly stock if possible. I'll put the glass filter back on and feel good about it.spl310 wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 10:46 am Those are attributes of very early 68 cars. My early 68 1600 parts car also has the mount for the glass bowl filter.

Re: Fuel filter transition
Interesting. I can understand, especially if the car is driven frequently. The elements are more expensive and I understand that the seals were often a weak spot.redroadster wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 5:01 pm We ( our dealer)refused to service them around 80 made the cust go to plastic
Interesting side note: For the first few months that I had the car I kept the glass strainer, without the filter element, in line with the plastic filter while I sorted out some fuel line/tank contamination issues. It makes a great trap for the larger particles.

Re: Fuel filter transition
If you can get a rubber seal they work better or you can get a piece of viton rubber sheeting and cut one.
I do think it is nice to have a glass bowl filter.
FYI- I'm interested in getting a glass bowl filter for a reasonable price. ( I'm on fixed income so hoping I can afford the parts I will be looking for)

Re: Fuel filter transition
I sell a rubber gasket for the early glass bowls. Shipping will be more than the price of the part.

The rubber gasket is also available at Oreilly's, it's on this site somewhere. Pat
