I have a 67.5 1600 and my su’s are spitting out gas at the overflow on the carbs, I was told I needed new float bowls, I got them and gaskets and a minor rebuild kit. My question is can I just put the new float bowls and gaskets on or do I need to remove carbs and take out the gas that’s in the bowls of the carbs or can I just replace my new float bowls and gaskets, thanks for the advice, as of today only one carb is spitting out fuel thru overflow , I had inspected last fall when both were spilling out the overflow, now only one , thanks again

You can just remove the dead floats and replace with the new ones, assuming that your needle and seat are working properly. Easy to check, just blow on the inlet to the float and push the tab inside the top upwards back and forth... it should open and shut off the air going through it, just like a float.

Greg is correct. Might I add, I would suggest replacing all of the fuel line after the fuel filter. I have seen it degrade and spall small pieces of rubber which can get stuck in the float valve causing issues.
