SPL310 Brake Master Cylinder Options

Post by kine8282 »

I’m sorting out a basket case 64 310 and after looking at the parts box that I was given with the car I found that I have a wrong MC. The MC I have is a 3/4 and I need a 7/8 single circuit. I’ve looked at the vendors prices for a new one and I was hoping someone can give me advice on an affordable alternative. I’m not a stickler for originality so if anyone has used a Wilwood or Tilton or whatever let me know. I also need to bend new hard lines so a custom set up is fine. Cheers!

I have a rough original you could send out and get redone, I think that is @$300. A Z car uses a 7/8 bore but it's a dual one, not sure if it would hit the hood or not.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

My 411 SSS uses similar hard to find master with exit to the inside, I found a cheap 520 Master fits with a minor modification and new line. In the case of the 411 with SSS air breather, have to stay single.

Look at tilton engineering. I believe it is the group 74 master cylinder. It comes in the proper bore, you will have to figure out the clevis for the pedal attachment and reroute the line for the fitting. The clevis and pushrod from the incorrect master cylinder over to the tilon unit. I have not tried it I don't know

Thanks, I saw the Tilton product and was worried about the height of the reservoir but it looks like there is an option to have a remote reservoir. It might be worth looking into further.

Thanks, looked into the 520 MC and I don't think they make em with a 7/8' bore but maybe I missed it?

Thanks, I'll let you know if I go the original route.

The tilton kit comes with a couple of reservoirs. You can always cut them down if they are too tall. You could probably even use the one off of the three quarter inch master cylinder.
