Hello.

I’m assembling my 69 roadster after years of resto. My friend did the body work at his customs shop and I found that the work on the rear panel has thickened the material making my tail light studs just a little too short for proper installation & securing.

Has anyone tried to remove the studs? can they even be removed? I need a bit more thread length.

My assemblies are new so I’m apprehensive to start experimenting.

Edit - Had a Brain fart. Sid is correct, as usual. It’s attached to the housing (no plastic bracket to go through just the rubber mounting gaskets).

The only solution I can come up with at the moment is to JB Weld an extension stud on to the existing one long enough to readily go well through the panel. Maybe someone else here can chime in with another (better) solution?

Not to be a jerk, but I don't think that I would want that much filler on the car. I'm not sure what Kai is talking about - the studs that I am thinking about are on the metal housing, aren't they? That would mean welded. I surely wouldn't want to try to replace those.

You could probably use a barrel bolt by slightly enlarging the holes.

Yeah I would have used less filler or created some recesses. This is a prestigious hotrod shop and friend, so I didn’t micro manage. I CAN mod them (cut + grind +drill + insert + longer stud). Or mod the body, but it’s already painted. Just was checking for low hanging fruit to see if the studs are pressed in or welded. I was afraid welded just quickly looking at the construction/assembly.

Barrel bolt should do it. M6-1.0 threads on the housing studs, at least on mine. Don't think they would have changed over the years?
