1967.5 Roadster 1600 will not engage in gear

Post by RichardA »

Hi:

My 1600 roadster will not move at all in any gear. A few weeks ago it suddenly started to drag when in gear.

Any thoughts as to cause?

Thanks!!

Probably a worn out clutch by the sounds of it, but check the easy to get at usual suspects first: Fluid level in transmission & clutch hydraulic system, linkage, slave cylinder, etc. After that, you’ll need to pull the engine & transmission to check into it further (clutch, synchros, gears, flywheel, etc.)

I'm a little thrown off by the description of the issue... so, it won't go into any gear with the engine running, put the clutch in and it grinds? It started "dragging" (meaning it started becoming difficult or grinding changing gears?) or was it more the trans felt like something was "dragging" or refusing to turn inside the box (or elsewhere)?
