Door lock cylinder flap not closing

Post by 111jag »

Anybody know how to fix the little flap on the door lock cylinder that is supposed to close when you remove the key? I suppose there is a very small spring inside the cylinder. Haven't had any success trying to fix it?

It requires disassembly of the locks of. Many of the parts that are needed to repair that are either difficult to find, or just simply no longer available. I talked to a locksmith about this a while back, and he did not want to touch it

Did you try spraying some WD40 or some such lubricant into the cylinder? It can't hurt and might help.

Locksmiths have a new flap plate
They make new parts to replace the flap plate ,as if you need to work on the tumbler keys that cover has to be removed

Don’t use WD40, use graphite.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

Anybody know the orientation of the key lock in the cylinder. Forgot to take pics when taking it apart. Does the long protrusion with the little brass tab go on the top or bottom with the key in the upright position? Also, I have fixed the flap. Will post a video on youtube soon.

Click the link below to view a video on how to fix the flap by making a spring inside a keyhole door lock with a violin string.
