I have a '64 SPL310 project that I'm working on to get it on the road, I'm not looking to restore it to stock but simply want to get it to run and drive at this point. The car came to me with a R16 motor and I am collecting what I need to move the project along. I THINK I have the engine bay wiring harness and taillight and gas sender wiring harness from a SPL310. The engine bay wiring harness does not have the wiring for the Alt or the starter or ignition.

I don't have the under dash wiring and was wondering if I can use a SPL311 1600 under dash wiring harness or do I need to replace the whole thing? I think the SPL310 was a POSITIVE ground right?

A couple of things Alekhine,
1. Verify the year of your car by VIN # as the DMV didn't always get it right.
2. The wiring changes under the dash on the later years 67, 68,69 are all different and I don't know about 64s
And there is a wiring genius here named Curtis. If you don't get answers, he's the guy.

The SPL310 was indeed positive ground. A quick tell on the wiring is if it has gray wrap rather than black. The 64 harness was wrapped gray.

Hey Greg! Confirmed that the car is a 64 SPL310 based on the vin number, dash config and body. Hope Curtis chimes in as well.

Gotcha regarding the wrap. Looked like the engine bay wiring is black and the wiring from the tail lights that runs under the drivers side is gray. So makes me think that sometime during the life of the car it was converted? BTW the battery cables are found underneath where the 3rd seat is supposed to be…is that the stock location?

Yep, photo attached from a sweet 1500, that went for $50,000 back in 2019. Info / Photos can be found at the link.

Someone could have rewrapped the harness, gray tape is tough to find. Yes, the 3 seaters had the battery under the back seat.
