Roadster in Europe

Post by 311 Portugal »

Good morning to you all from Portugal
I have just bought what turns out to be a very rare car in Europe, I saw a couple of 1600’s for sale but kept searching for the elusive 2000 and have found one! Not wishing to bore everyone to death it’s already been partly restored but I need some advice please.
The car appears to be missing the lower front valance, does anyone know if they are available or should we just make one?

Is there any substitute for the strange curved bracket to which the back end of the rear spring is attached? Doesn’t seem to be very stable or stiff!
Regards, Julian

Welcome! The front valance is part of the front fenders and there is a center piece that connects the fenders under the front grill. This diagram shows it pretty well. Center piece is item 2

As for the rear springs, not sure to what you are referring but there should be front mounts to the frame and rear perches, neither is curved. Maybe modified? Post a pic of the bracket

It appears that maybe a front spoiler was to be added to the fenders/valance area. This could be why that portion of the fender is removed. Is that the same on the other fender? Pat

I think he is referring to the bracket that bolts to the frame and then the rear shackles bolt to it. It’s a very solid piece and I can’t imagine it needing to be upgraded. Perhaps a picture of his bracket is in order.

Good morning,
This is the bracket for the rear spring hanger.....it seems a very strange way of doing things! Any suggestions please?

The shackle is mounted incorrectly. It should put the eye of the spring above the eye of the mount

Thank you SPL310, it didn't look correct. I am sorry to be a pain but do you have a photo of the spring correctly mounted please?

Good morning guys and gals,
We have, at last, started building the car now. Huge prices and taxes here in Portugal for imported parts so if anyone knows if there are parts available in Europe perhaps they would message me.
Specifically looking to see if we can buy the Volvo based brake kit, all the parts of our front braking system are shot, can't be economically rebuilt!
Any help greatly appreciated, Julian

Richard in the Netherlands is the only European seller of SP/SR parts I know of, listed in the vendors section.

Good luck with getting the car built.

Thank you, we are in touch with Richard now because he has more access to parts and between Holland and Portugal there are no customs formalities or taxes....God bless the European Union.

The car was sold to me as a "just bolt on all the bits"........my fault but it's far from that!

Welcome 311 Portugal! We love hearing from people around the world. Please keep us informed as to how the car is coming along and how we can help. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the car as much as we do!
