i am just about ready to send the block out to get machined for the stroker rebuild. Sorry for the newb question! the crank has been checked and ground 0.010 do I order bearings that state 0.010 over? the block will likely be line honed as well, would that make clearances too large with 0.010 bearings? the machine shop said they would help with the clearance. what do stroker builds like as far a clearance? do i go by the shop manual and have clearance of 0.025 to 0.068?

No. Order bearings that are 0.010 undersized (the correct terminology always throws people off) to match the new machined main and rod journals. As for line honing, if needed, you still use the 0.010 undersized bearings you bought but the fit can be ‘fine-tuned’ by a bore alignment (having the machine shop further grind the block & crankshaft main caps) to exactly the bearing clearances you are looking for. That being said, it’s probably overkill for small HP iron blocks. As long as everything turns freely when torqued down you’ll be fine. Our tolerances are not that tight and the oil pressure will still be fine.

* Edit - FYI If you didn't previously spin a bearing or don't see any notable scoring, scratches, etc on the block crank cradle or main caps, line honing is very likely not needed (If it’s not broke, don't fix it philosophy).

I think we being lower $$ on labor many a machine shop is tied up with big diesel head maintaince work in spring to now + quite a few just went out the deck less head type eng.s do not allow milling or decking
And Orielly auto parts had a main machine shop that was good ,and caused some other
To close ,then it closed or they do only a few things
Are you going to have the rods resized ? Not a bad ideal especially for high revs

I am blessed! I have a cam grinder, machine shop, old school speed shop, and blue hands fabrication locally. All of them have been super helpful! the cam grinder was amazing in helping me get my tappets cleaned and radiused.

I too am fortunate to have found a good local shop. They are getting harder to find. I bring my guys some donuts every once in a while...
