I need a 71 510 wiring diagram

I'm helping sort a 71 dime out for a friend, and the previous owner(s) just made a mess of the wiring harness. I can't tell where anything goes under the hood, especially on the starter side. I have wires just lying around, relays that have no wires anywhere near. Its a mess. If anyone can help, that would be much apreciated.

thanks,
Will

I once had a 510 that the PO had gone through the wiring. He redid the entire car in 14g RED wire. That car never ran again.

If you still need a diagram, I have the one in the Haynes manual. I can scan it at work and email it to you, in PDF. Let me know.

OTOH, my buddy and I drove down, picked up a friend's Harley, took it back to our place, rewired it completely with only RED wire.....all in under an hour.

Five years later, I heard it was still running fine on that all red wire job. 8)

its not the red wire that makes is not run.... its when it stops running and you have to figure which wire is the problem....

Well, it's simple then....it's the RED wire!

Seriously, I agree it should be properly color-coded. At the time, that was the only wire we had and we needed to get his bike running immediately. It may have been a one-color rewire, but we did it correctly and the bike was running fine for years.

On the flip side, I sold another Harley that had a fresh rebuild and proper colored wiring. In three months, the new owner had a smokin' barely running scoot with friggin' lamp cord hanging all over it as he "improved" it. :?

Well, red is positive, and it is negative ground, that's why the frame is painted black, right? So all the wires should be red.

So Dave-where did you get the 46 car you have for your Avatar? Pretty cool!

There's a seller on Ebay, tons of them. I just borrowed (stole) the image.
