Hello!

I’ll start off with i picked this car up in January and have been fixing little things here and there. The car was built as a “cars and coffee” type build approx 9 years ago. So there is no door windows, heater, wipers, turn signals…. I updated the headlights with LED units that have the halo around them that has an amber and white function. I have them wired so I can use those as the turn signals up front. In the rear I upgraded the 4 bulbs with LED’s as well. The previous owner had all 4 lights wired as one.

I ran 3 new wires to those lights to separate L\R and running lights. The running lights are on a toggle switch on the dash.

I have added a LED flasher relay and a 500148 switch to do the heavy lifting of separating all the different signals:

I used this video as a guide line for setting up my lights.


Now the issue:

Everything works as it should, except when I turn the running lights on. If the running lights are on, then my turn signals don’t blink. They light up, but just stay solid. My guess is it has something to do with the LED flasher relay and the amount of current the running lights circuit creates.

I don’t know the best way to tackle this issue. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you have wiring problems around your turn signal switch. Can you post the wiring information on the switch please, along with which wires go to which pins. The running light wiring should not be going through the turn signal switch, not be connected to the wires for the turn/brake lights, or the same filament on the front parking lights.

In looking at your photos it looks like your front parking lights are really bright. They my be wired incorrectly which could cause your problem also.

The problem I had with the blinkers is the led lamps don't pull enough current to cause the stock blinker to function. The blinker module has constant 12 volts on it so when you activate the blinker it completes the circuit. I solved the problem by making my own electronic blinker circuit. Yes it runs as long as the battery is connected however, the power it uses when not actually flashing the lights is minimal, around 9ma.

Attached is the wiring diagram for the switch. I have it wired exactly like it says to.

The running lights are on their own switch. The fronts I know are all seperately wired to each "filament". The rears, I am 95% sure they are, but have not removed the last of the wiring loom to check. But assumed so, just based on the lights having two different brightness's when applying the brakes, or turn signal.

If you’re sure the relay and switch are working correctly, I would start by double checking the three wires you ran to the bulb harnesses at the taillights. Sounds like the running light wire (usually the middle one) is crossed with the turn signal wire on both sets of lights (if not at the bulb then somewhere along the wire leading back to the flasher).

So, signal lights will work fine as long as the driving lights are not on. Turn the driving lights on, and the crossed driving light wire energizes the turn signal/brake wire to then constantly stay on.

If I disconnect the third wire I ran to the rears for the running lights the front turn signals work as they should. I am going to take apart the rear light harnesses and see if there is a cross somewhere. I think I have it narrowed down to that...
