Racing 5th gear neutral

Been racing my eBay find Datsun 2000 in the Northeast this past season. Car has been running better all the time due to the great suppliers and experts on this site. Of course on the last day of the race season I thought I was having clutch slippage since revs would pick up shifting into 5th and accelerating on the Lime Rock straight. Then I completely lost 5th. Still have 1-4th and reverse (which has always been tough to get into). Sounds like the 5th neutral issue mentioned on this forum. Looks like I will be shipping it to the west coast to get it fixed by one of the site experts.

Was worried about shipping it since the last transmission I pulled was a Mopar iron case 4 speed that a seemed like it weighed a ton even when when I was a lot younger. From this site it seems the transmission may weigh around 70 pound so should not be too bad to ship. Hope it’s salvageable.

Some pictures taken by a fellow club member from a earlier hill climb event in Vermont.

Do you use 5th uphill? Any in car footage?

Lost 5th at Lime Rock racetrack on the downhill to the straight. Pictures are from a different event at a hillclimb. There is a saddle/level area near the top where it’s level for a while and you can hit 80-90 mph and yes then I did shift into 5th. Have really low gearing in it currently. Hope to switch to a 4.66 for general track use. Anyone have a extra 5th gear set? Will be shipping transmission out to get fixed this winter.

Plan to pull the motor and transmission this fall/winter. The factory pulling brackets are missing on my car so saw these on Amazon. Sorry could not find stock Datsun ones. They seem to fit the top bolt on the transmission housing well. A little bit nervous on where to put on the front of the motor. Seems like the factory bracket was attached to one of the studs on the chain inspection cover. Is that correct? Was just wondering about strength and if on top or bottom stud?

If these work well will update later in case others need them.
