Formuling Steering Wheel and Horn Button Photos

Post by rwmann »

For @stitebunny, since large files don’t post in msg responses…

Some photos.

I found the right diameter horn button blank on eBay, then found the right DATSUN domed button to place at its center.

Hey thanks a lot for doing that!
My button definitely doesn’t have the grounding tab that comes out the side to contact the hub/wheel.
I will try and get some pictures up here as well.
I have the horn contact ring for the front side of the wheel but I can’t tell how it is supposed to attach.
I can’t imagine it just sits there loose?

The OEM wheel and center pad with button had a large spring behind it as I recall, but that was literally decades ago, so my recollection may have faded. eBay is your friend on a grounded horn button that will fit a Formuling wheel.

Here’s what I have. I will check and see if there is anything on eBay I can use or take parts from.
The first 2 pictures show a button I found online with the spring sticking out of the button which I think I need. And the horn contact ring secured in place.

You have what you need. The springs protruding from the edge of the button back are your ground(s). The contact plate carries horn power from the top of the steering shaft assembly (covered by the shroud) to the power lead passing through and protruding from the boss to the button back. Do you have power at the contact plate? You can make the lead with female spade connector to mate with male connector on the button back.

Mine is the button with out the spring. The other is just an example of one I found online.
I will need to find something to work there.
The other issue is how the contact ring gets mounted to the wheel?
