64 1500 at Mecum Monterey- SOLD!

Post by andyb »

Just crossed the block, a white 64 1500 sells for $55K. 3rd car in case you missed it. Very nice car! I'm going to guess "no rust".

A little shy of the estimate, but still a good deal for both the seller and buyer I think. It is a fantastic build.

How did the other one do? Did it sell? … Lot# T49 (1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster)

For $55k I would expect every detail to be correct. Apparently they were not concerned with that.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.

Being a purist, I would concur. That being said, it clearly turned heads.

I would imagine that whoever bought it and the other bidder{s} were people that had not been around roadsters to any extent as opposed to us nitpickers. I couldn't see anything major that couldn't be corrected but you would have to know. But the bright red interior which I can't imagine is the right color and red top would send me running. Perhaps they could put some of that red on the air cleaner so it's the right color. I don't understand why they jacked it up.

Well it is pretty and I would be willing to pay quite a bit of money for it upon inspection but not close to 55k. Hell, I've already got 30k plus in each my two restorations.

I'm waiting to drive the new Z and decide if I really want one.

I believe that the red is the correct shade for the interior based on original pieces that I have owned. The top is a custom color and cut. I've never been a fan of red tops, and I prefer the three window soft tops, that being said, the red shows up extremely well under the lighting of the auction. There were custom colors done to the engine which would be more work to change, but they were done well and again made the engine present better in the auction lights. The lowering springs on the front gave the car an odd rake in my opinion. All of that said, still a beautiful car and that is what the buyers saw at the auction. Well sold.

Thanks for that!

The rather large rake I saw in the pictures didn’t appear nearly as pronounced when it rolled across the block for some reason 🤔. That being said, I still think the build quality on that car is fantastic - That is one of the cars that would be in my Datsun Dream Garage.
