Champion Radiator from Ledfoot does not fit my roadster

Post by gdawg »

Hello, I am currently finishing up the restoration of my 1600 overseas. For cooling, I decided to order a 3 row all aluminum Champion radiator from Ledfoot racing instead of rebuilding the current one. It finally arrived (after almost 4 months at sea) only to find out that it is too tall. According to the shop doing the restoration it passes the hood line and there is no way to lower it down because it is already sitting on the steering linkage below.

Has anyone experienced the same issues with their Champion radiator install? I spoke to Ledfoot Racing this morning to see if there was a shorter one and they said there was only one size radiator for the roadster.

Cheers.

I can’t answer your question but have them measure what was delivered & compare it to what Champion lists. They may have shipped the wrong radiator, even though the fittings seem to be what the 1600 uses.

It’s been done here successfully. Have a read through all of this thread:

Hi Pat, I just messaged the shop to take the measurements for me and compare it with champion has listed on their website.

Hi Kai, thanks for the link. I will review the post and see what information I can forward over to the shop and figure out how to get the rad to fit and clear the hood.

I am happy with how the color came out. It was a tough choice to make between keeping it stock or trying something different. Thanks,

The radiator doesn't look too far off. As the roadster has a pretty good size hood scoop, with a little bit of adjusting, it may just fit.

Here are some measurements from my 67.5 with a champion radiator. It sets 4" above the cross bar in front and 3.5" above the the bracket above the recovery tank.

Compare your pictures and the ones of the installed radiator. Yours is being held too far forward.

Thanks so much for the pics. I will forward this on to the shop and hopefully this will give them a better idea of how to fit it.

Have the shop install the radiator support brackets, then test fit. I'm sure it will be fine. FWIW Pat

It was a custom mix by the painter. I wanted a gunmetal gray so he showed me different options. Once we narrowed it down we played around with the metallic effect.
