U20 Radiator switch onto R16 motor

Post by Stratman101 »

Want to install a U20 radiator onto my R16 motor. To do this switch, do i just need the U20 radiator AND the U20 thermostat housing? Or is there more to it to switch over? Anyone out there done the switch?

Just need the rad … and a drill for making new mounting bracket holes 😉 - Easy Saturday job.

Be very careful to not mount the U20 radiator too high as it may dent the hood when you close the hood if you are not careful.

I have the u20 rad. As far as eliminating the r16 therm tower, i read another post saying i can replace the entire tower with a 240z gooseneck , drop in the thermostat and done. Agree?

Not necessary, but you can replace the R16 water tower with an L-Series unit:

+1...2000 radiator & thermostat neck w/ 14" Hayden / Imperial puller electric fan and Derale adjustable thermo fan switch, w/ manual override fan switch if needed...but after 9000 +, miles..so far reliable...

Looks good Mike, I may have to try that fan in mine. Looks to be a copy of a Hayden brand.

Yeah, I think the two brands merged, or one's a division of the other, or whatever, but here are the specs, when I bought it in 2005:

Hayden / Imperial Thin-Line #226114

14" - 1050 CFM / 11.5 Amp
