Earlier I said: “ Changing the bumper height on our cars to make them “safer” in a collision with modern cars isn’t really an option.” Then I came across these … Appears I was wrong 🤔

Apparently this was a common addition to factory bumpers, also seen on Z cars:

Interesting 🤔 Can’t imagine too many people wanting to do that to their cars.

Not sure about common, but you’re right about it being a factory option. Looked up the catalog insert and it’s mentioned on page 238.1 under Options: “The dealers could also install a better bumper guard/brace …”

I guess no one asked “Why?”

At least that would be entertaining.

You’re correct. Front page and back page. Chrome or Black, it still looks … how did Sid put it? … “Um …”

The overrider bar was sold as a badge bar quite frequently iirc. They were popular for a while.

I do remember that being a ‘thing’ with the British car crowd. Can’t say I’ve seen it on Datsuns though 🤔

Correct: Ours was purchased from Rallye many years ago.

Mine came with a "badge bar". Didn't know what it was until I searched the forum and found this thread. Here's a picture of it set in place. It was removed by a previous owner but came loose with the car.
