In NY (and as I recall, MA and NH) bumpers are required and have height range limits. Turns out that in NY there are bumper height exemptions for ‘historic’ and ‘antique’ cars, so that appears to be the roadster loophole. TX had no such restrictions.

Makes sense Bob. Changing the bumper height on our cars to make them “safer” in a collision with modern cars isn’t really an option 🙃 This is me a couple weeks ago next to a Mini (always amazed at just how small our cars are parked next to anything) … Pretty sure my bumper would slide under his spoiler, never mind reaching his bumper 🤔 Should have seen the look on his face though when my 6’4, 210 lbs frame stepped out of the roadster … That never gets old 😂😂

No mater what I do I cannot get this site/my pad to show/load pics right side up, even after being rotated and saved...
But it looks pretty much the same as yours minus the fog lights. I really like it, and I think you should keep it!
Been swatting flys...

I agree … it’s growing on me quickly. I looked at yours, Alvin’s and a few others here … They all just look ‘right’ without the front chrome trim 😏

P.S. Your laptop must be cursed 😉

My contribution to this topic... :D
This is only ONE of my personal favorite pictures, that I was able to easily share...Gordon Glasgow's ride....remember Gordon ?
gordonglasgow-front1.jpg
I mean...It's got a spoiler, LESS than a full front bumper, AND driving / fog lights....really...what's not to like.... :?: :smt026

If I had the welding resources, and an extra front bumper to harvest for the project, I would to do mine this way, in a heart beat 8)

And another example of a REAR custom variation :
Solex2K_4.jpg
Personally I prefer a full rear bumper without the over riders...Alvin...it's time !
P.S....here is a view of the front of the last pic...

That’s actually the first time I’ve seen a ‘split-bumper’ conversion on our roadsters. Some nice ‘Restomod’ coolness there Mike.

Gordon Glasgow is still the only person to have ever done a front bumper like that.

I've been bumperless for 20 years with my car.

Someone in South Florida cut the center out of their front bumper to sort of mimic Gordon's. It was not a good job.

I don't have pictures as that was a LONG time ago. Unlike Alvin, I am not the photog. He used a circular saw to cut just inboard of the mounts and used push on door trim to cover the rough cut edge. It looked OK from across the parking lot.

That silver & red one with the side pipes is a trip. Looks like 1978-79 Camaro Z28 side vents in the fenders, too.

And a diamond plate rear valance...

If you’re going to try something that radical, you’re not doing yourself any favours by cutting corners (pun intended).
The split bumper fabrication on two above look right … not rat-rod.

That being said, a full-blown custom rat-rod conversion done on one of our roadsters would probably look … what’s the colloquialism … ‘Bad-Ass’? 😏

For now though, the simple bumper delete works for me …

If you have a specific request let me know!

In 2011 I met this roadster owner while driving home one day, it had split front bumpers like Gordon:

That is a very cool selection Alvin … Thanks.
Should have known you’d have the treasure trove of pics.
