the red car is a work wheels car, and there have been discussions about it before. It's seems to me some parts of that particular photo have been altered - the car may exist, but that photo has been altered.

the top is a smoothline. I believe you can still buy them new for about a grand. used ones are on ebay every once and a while.

to my knowledge, those are two different tops and neither are a smoothline. the one found on the works roadster only comes from japan on the 64 and older years. although, ive seen some in the states on rare occassions on the 64s.
i'd also love to have the one on that red works roadster. it has a lower profile and no ghey submarine window.

The top on the maroon 67 is an aftermarket top that was available for the low windshield cars. I have seen it on a few 2 seat 1500s and one 1600. The top on the red car appears to be a factory hardtop. They are very lightweight and for some reason were not generally imported to the US although there are a few floating around. The low windshield factory top was imported to some extent, but not to a great amount.

The smoothline looks like the maroon top, but without the goofy reverse scoops...

Seiyess,

No, that is not a Smoothline. It is similar, but the smoothline does not have the scoops (unless I am mistaken! Will the owner of one of those tops pipe up if there is a manufacturer's logo? Buddy??)

Smoothline only makes high windshield tops iirc...

The maroon car is my 67 and it's not a smoothline (it does have excellent visibility out the back though). I have a smoothline for my 67.5 that is clearly different. I would look at the label but I'm currently in Korea...maybe I can get the wife to go peek at the hardtop since it's off the car and hanging up right now.

Hi Guys,
There is one on Ebay (item # 4607079529) that looks like the one on the red car.

Here is the photo from the registery of my 70srl # 14025. It has a top on it that looks likethe Red cars top but it is not smooth surfaced. The rear window does wrap around the back but not as the smothie tops do. It has no name plates. Could it be an original top??

On any of those tops, if you want to pull off the vinyl and smooth, prep and paint the underlying fiberglass, wouldn't you get a similar result? Evan mentioned he might smooth the top I sent him, or recover with carbon fiber pattern vinyl. The Carbon fiber might be wild, might be awful, would have to see it.

Ok, let me see if I've got this straight. You got a classic sports car, but changed it's stance to be more like a drag car with the rake and the high profile tires in teh back and low up front. You got a classic convertible, but are now going to take the hard top and cut it up to make it into a part time coupe.

It sounds like you need a Camaro based on that.

Talk your dad into going to Road Atlanta for the Mitty. You will enjoy it!!
