Dashboard VIN plates - I need one I think... What are my options?

Well, after many years of slow progress, the frame off restoration of my 68 2000 is nearing completion. Dash is coming back from Just Dashes this month, and I noted that this car had no VIN tag on the dash itself. So, it has me wondering...

1. can i register a car (with only a bill of sale) in California without a dash VIN tag?
2. if no, can i get one made? I do have the stamp numbers for the cowl VIN plate, but would need someone to screen / laser the SRL311- on a tag which i then rivet on to the dash before installing it.

Any input on these 2 q's would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Andy

Andy,

Shouldn't be necessary: dash VIN plates were not installed on the '68s.

Cowl vin plate and frame stamp is all you need, as posted above only 69-70 had dash plates

That would explain the lack of dash VIN plate.
Thanks everyone!

If a cop thinks it isn't the way it came from the factory .it can be confiscated until.proven it's the car titled
Sometimes just the wrong rivet sets this off
I'd say you should precure proof that it didn't have one for this and leave it that way

All cowl plates were affixed with JIS screws. Dash plates on 69-70 were riveted.
