What is the proper orientation of the clutch?

Does the extended part of the clutch go towards the engine or does it go towards the trans? I fear I have made a big mistake. I installed the clutch with the extended part facing the trans and the clutch fork doesn’t seem to move very much at all. I’m currently in the process of putting the engine back in the car and I have the engine mounted and transmission mounted but haven’t had time to put everything else back together. Can somebody confirm how the clutch is supposed to go in?

You have it right, by the description
How much in inches ? You tested the fork movement before install ? could be it isn't setting in the socket completely.

I was referring to the clutch disc. By the diagram it looks like the extended part goes towards the transmission

I understand now. The extended end of the clutch disk faces the flywheel if I remember correctly. You can put it in backwards but you would have a hell of a time getting the transmission input shaft to slide all the way up so the transmission was flush against the backing plate (or whatever it’s called) if you did.

The center hub is thicker on one side - that side faces the transmission. It won't fit in the other way, you'll damage the clutch disc if you try that.

I have the side that pops out further going towards the transmission, this is incorrect?

Yes, that is correct. When the disc is new, there isn't a lot of movement on the pressure plate.
