Gas tank sealing, avoiding clogging

Post by tangoterje »

Hi everyone,

I know this topic has been covered a few times, and I think I´ve read most of the posts, but I didn´t find that much info on potential problems clogging the fuel lines when sealing with Por 15 fuel tank sealer.

First of all, what´s in there? Are the two fuel lines simple pipes that go to the bottom of the tank, or is there some kind of strainer down there?

My tank has been soaking in strip all for a couple of weeks now, and I´m ready to add the Por 15 metal etch. Next step (after cleaning it properly) is the Por 15 fuel tank sealer. Just don´t want to clog anything down there...

Any do´s and dont´s would be appreciated!

I am no expert, but mine were just open going into the tank. As the POR-15 sealer was setting up, I used a piece of stainless steel cable on a drill motor to clear the pipes. I did this every 10 minutes until it was set. I made sure that I knew how long the cable was such that it would not go very far beyond the pipes and damage the sealant on the floor of the tank. This worked for me.

Here's another idea. After treating it, stand the tank on the end. That way any excess would pool where it can't clog the pickup

Is it off the car ? No filter just a pickup tube though I found one that fits
Pull the sender and block off with a rag in a bag stuffed into the opening
If it's hot the S bend ,best to tubing cutter that out and join with tough fuel.line and clamps
