Cleaning the air filter

I haven't read anything regarding cleaning air filters. My post on the registry notes that I have weber carbs. I took them off and put the SU carbs back. I've always had an issue with fluid buildup on them. Oil? I've blown them out from the inside. I think I'll use some type of solvent like brake cleaner. I don't think we need to buy a new filter every time they get a little dirty do we?? I'm going to adjust my carbs today. I hope that prevents further infiltration of oil in the filter. They are a little dirtier than usual because I just took a 1200 mile road trip. Any tips??
