Hello!
(Note: top pic is after Mike Young Springs, below is with cut stock springs)
I picked up a 1970 1600 a couple months back and it had cut stock springs and kyb’s. Ride was pretty harsh but loved how it sat. Just i installed some MY springs & JT Billy’s all around. Took it for a quick test drive and it feels way more compliant. Only drove around the block as I need to get the engine tuned.

I am surprised at how much higher the front is now. My main question is will these springs settle a bit? If not, what options do I have to get this lower?

Thanks for any feedback.

I bought the exact same setup and love the ride. Mine didn't seem to settle much if any. I wish they were 1/2" or so lower.

Nice car.

I installed my MY springs and JT's Bilstein shocks this weekend. What a difference. Love them both.

i have some super comps and they are uncut and ride "two fingers from fender". they sit lower then my mike young springs. not worth changing to those as they ride so harsh and vibrate the car to death.

Mochi, please be a bit more precise, which are “THOSE” springs, MY or super comps.

I'm sure the springs vary some, but for me (80s era comp springs) it's the shocks that take out all the harshness. I measured and have 1 3/4 inches between the lip and the tread (2 fingers stuck between the tire and the lip, mine are thin). 205/50/15 tire. No rubbing ever, even hitting a bump in a turn.

Mike's springs are the proper height for correct front suspension geometry. Anything lower puts the roll center below ground level. Below ground level roll centers are nothing but bad. Some of the issues that you run into are, loss of spring rate as the suspension compresses and aloss of static camber. None of that is a good thing.

Yes they will settle a little, but not a huge amount.

Peace,

i used to have springs that had super comp stamped on them and they looked uncut. they had a tighter coil. they ran super harsh. the super comps were about 2 fingers from tire to fender flair. the mike young springs that i am running now i love! they are about 4 finger to the fender

Another option for those looking to upgrade is the Vogtland springs. From personal experience, I’m very happy with the lowered stance, ride comfort and handling they provide - It was a great upgrade.

You may want to post the source for those.

I’ll post some pictures later to visually explain but in a nut shell it’s tire size that are wrong

In order to fit these XXR +0 offset wheels the PO went with what looks like in the pictures 195/50/15 or 195/45/15 , they look great with overly cut springs but obviously they are much smaller than stock . Combine that with KYB shock and cut springs and you’re in for a very harsh ride .

That being said the Bilstein/MY combo does sit higher than comp spring and I would say mine did settle a little from new but hard to say how much

Maybe just give them a call or fax them (do people still fax? 🤔) and provide them the part number (below). They also sell direct from the German mfg. on eBay every now and then if you want to keep an eye open for when those listings pop up.

Were spring perch 'pads' (top and/or bottom) used, and have they crushed?
