Hi gang, I hear there's a gear box lube folks are using instead of gear oil (which slowly leaks out, mine is, early box)... suggestions? Thanks. I looked through the wiki and did several searches without luck. Tons of info out there though on so many things! What a great resource this site is!

I believe it is referred to as Corn Grease or something similar. I thought that Ross had mentioned that he carried it at one time. Going strictly on memory here, and it changes as I age.

Probably this stuff. I think you mix it down a bit with reg. gear oil.

Corn head grease. No mixing, works well but a little tricky to fill the box. Warm the grease first so it flows easier.
Theres quite a story about why John Deere developed the stuff but short version, it was feveloped so it wouldnt run past the heads on corn pickers.

I have a steering box replacement in my future, I may try this Corn head grease.
