Needle Question

Post by Vesparizzi »

So I decided to treat my roadster to a full once over by a local Datsun Guru before I moved across the country. He's said I would need new nozzles, so I ordered both nozzles and needles - why not. Didn't drive the car, had it shipped, and now it runs pretty badly (gassy, sluggish, backfired for the first time ever).

So I am checking timing, carbs, etc. when I notice my new/old needles are different sizes? I believe the old ones were the hard to find ones from England, but are they different sizes?

The new ones are gold and longer, do I have the correct sized needles? Has anyone come across this? I was under the impression they were all the same size for a 1600.

Don’t have an answer but did you check with the guy who did the work?

Did you drive it after he worked on it?

There are lots of needles that can be selected. It seems the most used from this site is the ADQ for the 1600.
You can get them from Burlen or SU Midel.
You might be able to measure the old needle at intervals and match it to something they offer.

Check the needle shank for markings. That will tell us a lot. I also carry the ADQ needles.

Thanks all. I didn't drive it as it was put on a car hauler for the trip across the country.

The new gold ones read M39 (from Dean at Datsunparts) and the others don't have any writing on them. Neither set looks to have any wear so I'm wondering if one length would be better than the other to reinstall. Thanks for any insight.

Length doesn't matter, in this case anyway.
