valve cover baffle sealer

Post by johnscf »

I powder coated my valve cover earlier this week and noticed that the seal around the baffle inside (I assume it limits oil going out the breather hose) cracked in to tiny pieces. I cleaned it up and most is now gone. Anybody know what type of sealer I should use to reseal??

Probably best to just JB Weld the baffle in.

First did they bead blast the valve cover before they powder coated it? If so you need to remove the baffle and clean all the media out and then put the baffle back in and then apply the JB Weld. If don’t do this you might kiss your engine goodbye, glass bead destroys engines, it’s like liquid sandpaper inside the engine. Dave

I did bead blast it but not the inside. Just in case I also taped off the baffle. Then after blasting the outside and removing the tape I blew air inside the baffle and then rinsed it. I hope I took enough precautions so that I don’t need to remove it the rivets are all good and the seal around the edges only cracked in a couple places

Pictures of the areas where the sealer dried up and broke off

Hard to say, I hope you didn’t get any media inside of it.
