1600 Transmission Cover

I'm removing my '66 1600 4 speed and replacing with a '69 4 speed. I can see that the transmission oil pan cover is different on these and it looks like either one will fit on the '69. The '66 is aluminum with ribs, the '69 looks like it's steel without ribs. Is there a preference on which one I should use given that either one will fit on the '69? Appreciate any comments...

The early cars had the cast aluminum, later had the stamped steel. Finned aluminum looks cool, steel is stronger. I know of one Roadster that had a broken trans pan - the aluminum one. The choice is yours.

That makes sense regarding the strength of the cover. I'm thinking the aluminum one might dissipate heat better, but like you said the choice is mine.

thanks

To be fair, it looked like someone tried to use it as a jacking point. The guts of the transmission were fine. Personally, I don't plan on offroading, and I like the look of the finned cover...
