Could you drive the new Nascar trans

Post by redroadster »

The new cup car has a odd trans now or motorcycle style
With R at top then back is N then down thru 1st..2nd ..3rd ..4th 5th ....no H gate anymore
Truex spun his car last race going to pit thinking he needs to put it in 3rd gear , he jammed it forward onto Reverse
It's about as awkward as a R hand drive ride
Those guys likely have a bunch of personal manual trans muscle cars they really shouldn't drive now

Give them sequential paddle shifters and see how that goes!

This is a standard sequential box and these guys are professionals. Shouldn't be an issue at all. My race cars have different shift patterns based on the transmissions and once on track you don't even think about it.

Something doesn't sound right. With a sequential motorcycle trans you can only shift one gear at a time. So if he was coming into the pits in fourth the next gear forward would be third. If the trans is setup to do multiple shifts then you would have to use the entire range of movement to get to reverse in one big jab.

This per an interview and Dale jr..said he had it in neutral coming in ( they coast saving fuel ,protecting the eng. Cooling it more) then put it in R thinking he was going to 3rd
For 70 years it's been the H gate

Okay, now I understand. Not good but I can see that happening.
