TRUNK and GAS TANK SUPPORT

Post by Jorge022770 »

Guys:

I know this topic has been covered before but I can't find it...My trunk floor had (when I got it from the PO) the typical crack caused by the gas tank weight. I "fixed it" with the repair kit sold by the POR-15 guys and after a few months it cracked right on the same old place.

I know there's an alternative spot where I can attach the gas tank straps to eliminate this problem for good...can someone enlight me with this information?

:? Thanks!

RE:Relocating Gas Tank Mounts

Post by S Allen »

Jorge,

From another thread with the Sid Meister's comments:

"With the tank out, drill the holes in the frame directly across from the stock rear mounts (for the J bolts) You will be happy that you did in the long run.

Take photos of as much as you can. Several folks have asked for this to be documented. A lot of us have done it without the writeups, but that will help some folks. I will be happy to write the text if you can take the pics."

And, again, if you take pictures and send them to me I will add it to the main site.

Steve:

I will tackle it this coming weekend, and the digital camera will be, as usual, among my essencial tools. I'll keep you posted.

if you arent goin the all original route and goin the race setup, you could get a fuel cell for the truck..... BUT, no spare tire room.

Well, I have seen (and driven) a car with a fuel cell in the trunk. It looks too boy racer for me. It also killed what little trunk space there was. I mean we could only bring back one case of wine, darnit!!

Personally, if I were to do a fuel cell, I would try to figure out how to hang it in the stock location...
