Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
This is my 1967 1600
Okay, so I found this red wire on the passenger side fire wall. The other end is not connected to anything, there are three pictures tracking its path.
The other part I’m wondering if it is the oil level sender? There was a wire connected to the pointed end by a bolt. This is to the right of the oil filter.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
That red wire is not factory.
Guess of the day: -
It may be a feed wire for an electric fuel pump if it was connected to the Ignition Coil.
The oil pressure sender wire on a '67 is Yellow with a Black stripe.

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
Thanks I was pretty sure it wasn't stock. Most pictures I've seen of other 67s don't have those wires behind coil pack and coil pack is mounted differently.

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
Yes, the part you circled is the oil pressure sending unit. Be nice to it as they can be stupid expensive to replace and hard to find. They typically give a "guess" at actual oil pressure. Since you don't know if it works or not, consider buying a cheap, temporary mechanical oil pressure gauge with the proper fitting for the block that you can hook up to make sure the engine has oil pressure when ever you first fire it up (as is or after the engine is rebuilt). If it does not work you might be thinking the engine has no oil pressure when it does and freak yourself or dad out! They often read very low (at least on a U20, not sure about an R16)... mine shows nearly 0 at idle when warm but it actually has several pounds, verified by a mechanical gauge.

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
Yup. Same with my R16. Seeing the gauge at near zero when fully warmed up and at 600-650 rpm is a bit disconcerting, even thought you know it’s inaccurate.Gregs672000 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 2:58 pm … They often read very low (at least on a U20, not sure about an R16)... mine shows nearly 0 at idle when warm but it actually has several pounds, verified by a mechanical gauge.

Oil sender unit, Standard Motor Products PS-202. Same exact unit probably made by the same company in Japan that made the original.

Looks like that P/N has dried up. According to Rockauto / Autozone these P/N crosses to PS-202, not sure I trust it??

I found 2 or 3 for sale a few minutes ago. Wouldn't even try those two.DAC21 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 8:05 pmLooks like that P/N has dried up. According to Rockauto / Autozone these P/N crosses to PS-202, not sure I trust it??

I have found it as well, just not from sites I have heard of or necessarily trust, eBay, Amazon, Summit, know Autoparts suppliers...nope.

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
I purchased one of those (the correct one) and ended up going back to my original as it didn't work right. Maybe just my experience?

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
Haven't had any trouble with mine. I have a stash of 3 or 4 of them. Same crappy low pressure reading that they all seem to have. Going to have my gauge restored and calibrated. I 'm thinking I will try a mechanical gauge just to see.Gregs672000 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 10:51 pm I purchased one of those (the correct one) and ended up going back to my original as it didn't work right. Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
Great thanks guys. While your here the fuel line had an extra inline fuel filter right before the main(glass) one. Why? The coil was also moved closer to the battery and is angled at a 45° angle up and all engine bay I have seen have it horizontal or don't have it at all. Should I keep electric fuel pump(looks rough) or go back to mechanical(have a brand new one)

Re: Red wire and maybe oil level sender?
The OEM mechanical pump is just fine in my opinion.
The rebuild kit for the P510/P610 and early 810 fuel pumps fit.
An electric pump should have an oil pressure cutoff to prevent fuel being pumped in an accident
Re-aligning the coil to stock position is entirely your choice: best for originality.
Perhaps the PO didn't bother with the OEM glass filter: the inline filters are probably easier to come by in an emergency
