Anyone found a solution to replace the Bumper Mounted License Plate Light Pigtail inc. the rubber boot insert?
My rubber boot is crumbling. I'm fine just using silicone to keep everything in place. BUT the kicker is that the bulb and socket are frozen together. I have it soaking in penetrant, but time will tell if I can save the socket. So any suggestions to replace, or just be extremely patient with getting the bulb out clean and going with silicone?

Thanks

Could try a Rubber spark plug boot. Seem to come in lots of sizes.

I found a replacement for the pigtail at my local ACE hardware store. It didn't have the rubber boot however, so I used silicone as you plan to do.

Dennis,
I used one of the two below to replace the electrical portion. I can't remember if original in 1 or 2 pole design. For the crumbling boot, I used a silicon cover that came from a heater core that I had. They use them to cover the ends of the pipes. Can also be found on some brake products. Works great. You might soak the assembly in white vinegar from the supermarket, It'll eat away the rust and is very cheap.

Thanks Dean, if you remember, does bulb thread in or is spring loaded and just requires a partial turn, or none of the above? LOL!

It has bayonets and pushes into the spring loaded, single pole base. 1/4 turn right to secure it in.

Thanks, I know I have some BA9S LED's lying around which should replace the old 1895 bulbs once I get to that point.

I had a similar problem with the backup light on my 67.5. I replaced the socket with the socket from a tail light. Check out viewtopic.php?t=34484, it might give you an idea.
Peace,
