Fresh Air Vent Door Removal

I could have sworn that I have seen a topic on this but cannot find it today. I am stripping the body down for wet blasting. I want to remove the fresh air vent doors (under the dash) and will replace the seals. I first thought they were held in with screws through the pivot shaft, but I cannot see a slot or phillips head, nor do I see any threads where they come through the other side of the shaft. They appear to be rivets. Before I grab my dremel and cut them off, I want to make sure there is not some simple way to remove them. It is not fun standing on your head to do this and I could be missing something simple because it is difficult to see and get to.

If I remember correctly, the pivot shaft rotates in two metal tabs that are situated near the opening of the fresh air tube. You will have to bend them slightly to remove the fresh air flap. It's pretty crude, but seems to work fine. Open the car door and you should be able to see it from a kneeling position outside the car with a flashlight. My car is a 67.5 and it's possible later models may be different.

I hope that helps,

Mike

Thanks Mike! You were absolutely right. I am glad I asked before cutting. As always, this site is always a great resource with a lot of helpful folks.
