67.5 shift boot kit in '67
I have a 67.5 shifter kit from Dean that I will be installing soon in my 1967. The shifter has to be in 1st or 3rd in order to take tension off the boot assy. It appears to me that the four little screws with the stainless steel trim ring are not enough to hold adequate clamping force on the rubber boot to keep it from pulling in one direction or another. I am looking for experience that anyone has with this for two years or more in a '67 or earlier. I am thinking of doubling the screws to eight.

Is your shift plate located correctly? I've had one in my '66 for a year now and it is centered correctly in neutral. The four retaining ring screws are more than enough for my setup. I also sprayed the underside of the boot with a couple layers of Flex Seal to thicken the rubber for hopefully, longer life. Here's a pic with shifter in neutral.

First is in neutral
second is in either first or third.

I think you may need to turn the boot 180 degrees. It only fits well one way.

Well I got it almost done today.
I went with the Spriso method, because I really liked the "finished' look of the vinyl boot with no edge showing. The first pic is of my opening. I trimmed the carpet back a little using my soldering gun.
Sorry the pics are not in the sequence that I uploaded them in.
The pic at the bottom shows the screws after welding them into the stainless steel ring, and the bottom of the vinyl boot cut to fit around the curves, just after I applied the contact cement. wrapping the vinyl around the stainless ring makes it easy even for a clumsy person to get it smooth.
The fourth pic is after the rubber boot is added. I am going to take it back off to apply glue to enhance it sticking to the plate. Notice that the rubber boot is directly onto the underside of the shifter plate.
