The photos of SUs are nothing like the dual Mikuni Solex description. A U-20 4-speed? Trans from an early 240Z?

Yeah, not the most accurate description. But $21k for this car seems like decent money for the seller.

From the registry under the serial nr. in the BJ description:

Ya. Since they clearly made a mistake with the dual Mikuni Solex description (maybe it was an original SOLEX car once??) I think they also made a mistake about the trans since the shift plate on it is for a 5-Speed - But who knows … Wish the build plate was readable.

I think I'm most bothered by the misaligned steering wheel and horn pad (and loose wheel wrap).

It does seem to be off-set a bit doesn’t it?

What is with the control knobs to the left of the steering wheel? Odd angles and wrong knobs.

All in all, it looks to be a very nice car …. and probably is considering the price it fetched.
A little strange that they would not address the obvious interior issues with the same zeal that was put into the rest of the car, but that is an easy fix for the new owner - I’m sure he/she will end up with a nice classic daily driver that will turn heads when all is said and done.

A little off thread, but still Barrett-Jackson auctions of interest. These 320 trucks went for higher than I expected:

Dash cap is distorting (wrong) knob projection?
Rear bumper has no central license plate lamp housing.

Kai,
Thank you for sharing this B-J listing. Not trying to hijack your thread, but only to advise newcomers or those considering buying a 311 to become familiar with the only reliable VIN source, the frame/chassis number:
http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... VINNumbers
Because this particular car is a '68 model, it would not have the VIN tag on the dash that came out in '69, only the easily removable/transferable plate on the cowl.
Comparing the before (yellow/black interior) with the after (red/red interior) would indicate a need for the purchaser to verify the frame/chassis VIN were this a private sale rather than a B-J auction, especially considering the amount of money involved.

Excellent points!
I may be too trusting of the build plate being original to the car (whatever it says).
