I am a noobie here, so please no throwing of rocks! Is there a thread here on the site that talks about people with high windshield models replacing the high windshield with the low windshield just because they like the look better?

It has been undertaken a couple of times, but there is a lot of cutting involved and honestly, it is probably not a great return on investment. You are likely better to clean up what you have, sell it, and buy a low windshield car if you prefer the aesthetic. Owning a couple of both, I can honestly say that the driving experience in the high windshield cars is generally better. Less wind buffeting (I am short and have still lost my hat in the low windshield car...). And, you are far less likely to get skewered by the driveshaft in a high windshield car as they are designed to collapse vs. a solid death spear...

Do you want to replace the dash in your High Windshield car with the dash from a Low Windshield car? If so, there are a few threads on that.
This is Eric Straw's 1969 SRL with a low windshield dash swap:

Well that is absolutely beautiful. All I know is, what I have is far beyond just cracked, and I doubt a dash pad cover is going to fix the issue, so I have to find a replacement or fabricate something. :-)

Sid is right, the caps can bring most any badly cracked dash back to life, and the look really good. Some spray foam and lots of sanding will give you a good base to apply the cap. You will need to be a good fabricator to change to a flat dash, and then you will most likely need to restore whatever used dash you buy. You may end up with as much money invested as you would by having your dash restored by “Just Dash’s”. Last I heard apx $1500. Sooo…you have several ways to go…
1. Dash cap…Cheap, minimal work, looks good.
2. Just Dash’s…Expensive, looks great.
3. Convert to early dash… Expensive, major work, stunning looks
4. Fabricate your own…price, sky’s the limit, lot of work to tons of work, looks depend on your imagination, skills, and budget.

I did the opposite. My ‘69 body was too far gone. My ‘67 was in decent shape but I wanted the high windshield with the flat dash. So I cut the cowl and windshield frame out of the ‘69 and graphed it into the ‘67. It was a lot of trial and error, measuring, tack welding and testing to get it right.

Page 5 and 6 is where the work on the cowl and windshield frame was done.
