Gauge grounding

Hi Could someone tell me if gauge light only light when twisted in the gauge. When i twist them in they no not work even though the pen light shows power thanks

If you have painted or treated the rear surface of the dash panel pressing, you may find that the gauges do not connect to ground satisfactorily.
When I rebuilt my dash, I ran a separate ground wire to all the gauges, daisy chain fashion, to a common ground point.
Connect the wire underneath one of the dash instrument clamp screws using a slip in "open" type terminal.
Relying on mechanical grounds is always suspect as things can change and cause you grief with intermittent faults.

After I powered coated my dash, I created this wire so that the sound was connected... without I had no gauge lights!
