Looks like D.F.R.G. has gone private on F.B.

Not sure why Datsun Fairlady Roadster Group has gone private after all these years?
That’s unfortunate for those of us without a social media presence (I’m not the only one, right?). At times, perusing it proved to be a good supplemental resource with some very knowledgeable people there as well.

It was done due to the amount of spam accounts that were joining and posting garbage and the mods were spending too much time cleaning things up.

I manage a couple of Roadster accounts - there are a lot of folks wanting to sell crappy t-shirts and other items. It can be exhausting.

Huh … It’s unfortunate it got to that stage.

My only comment is that the complete LACK of advertising here is what makes 311s.org all that much better!

So much easier to find old posts and research things as well. Not to mention no B.S. too. Overall a much better experience here, don’t understand why so many flock to FB for their info!

I've found a lot of Roadster mis-information on FB groups. Here, that's rarely an issue.

Different strokes. Some people don't want to be on forums, others don't want to be on Facebook. Some do both. I have seen misinformation on both sites. I have had people tell me that they can almost never find anything on 311s. Same on Facebook.

True … You know how hard it is to find a cat video here?

Good luck finding anything again on FB-- for such an online powerhouse, FB is nearly useless to try to find something once it has been posted.
I 100% support 311s.org, and will continue to post my build threads here, and other relevant roadster related info. For fluff, FB is fine, but if I want real roadster info, you'll find me here...

I've never been on the FB Roadster site, but any time I've tried to get a question answered about my Microsquirt EFI it's been useless... as Spriso said, once posted it's like an elevator going down... it just gets buried.
As I watch all the controversy about FB and social media, I'm glad I'm not on it except here. Too many rabbit holes for the untrained mind.

I left this Facebook group in January.
I am not surprised and happy for Rob Beddington (owner) to see he has taken action to protect his domain.
The Fairlady Group was my first foray into an FB group (2017?) and it was fun for me. I met many great roadster owners and the undeniable reach of FB made sharing event updates and fun run dates a breeze. Around 2019 there was huge uptick in membership and the quality of posts (is that a thing?) really declined.
Personally, it was the constant fake adverts and incessant memes that simply turned me off. It was like people would rather post jokes than their own roadster. I'm still not FB-savvy so maybe there was a way to turn off that stuff. Besides, like all of FB, there are no rules so you can post whatever non-roadster related drivel you want. Humans will naturally do this given the opportunity

Kudos to Rob for making it private and I hope it resolves the issues.
Echoing Michael's sentiments...311s.org is all I need to keep the roadster part of my brain happy. I will fight to keep it alive.
*Don't forget to put those donations in to Steve!*
