Looking for info on rebuilds of 1500 water pump, alternator, and starter. It seems like it might be cost effective. Thx Pat

The Flying Dutchman (Oregon) for Water Pumps has come recommended by others (888) 595-1110. Confirmed they are still an ongoing entity, as I just called to confirm, but 6-8 weeks out as they are very busy. It doesn't appear they have a Website

I would not bother rebuilding the 1500 starter. There are a lot of starters that are better and less cost than a rebuild.

True that.
On the 1500, early 1600 WP/you won't rebuild one for less than this:

Plenty in stock right now and typically ship within 24hrs
We may rebuild a few of the 1500 iron pumps for purists, looking at that now, but everypart is different from later pumps, so we'll see.

On the positive ground alternator, we can do them too, but parts are hard to find, so they can take a while.

Careful replacing the 1500 starter with a modern gear reduction unit.
If you are still positive ground, the motor will rotate in reverse and be ineffective.
I bought a negative ground gear reduction starter and converted it to rotate in the correct direction by removing the permanent magnets from the stator case, turning them end for end [which reverses the permanent magnetic field] and re-assembling.
Haven't installed it yet, it is in reserve since I was able to resurrect my original starter.
BTW, the typical problem with any starter is either worn brushes or worn solenoid high tension contacts, i.e. all the moving parts.
My solenoid basically disintegrated when I pulled it apart: totalled!
Adapted a late model solenoid to the original starter and voila, good to go!

Actually it just depends on the design of the starter, many designs are series wound. With those designs, polarity is irrelevant. They work perfectly as positive ground.
As mentioned the newer permanent magnet starters (PMGR) will spin backwards if hooked up positive ground.
Most the very early 15/1600 roadster starters are very wimpy and not worth rebuilding. The later mits/hitachi 2000 starters will spin a 1500 effortlessly. Those are what you want.

Why rebuild the water pump, unless you want the exact casting, when there are new replacements that are very affordable, ready to go, with a 5 year warranty?
