New Roadster Owner from France

Hello !
One year ago, I bought a Datsun b110 4 doors sedan as a restoration project. I’ve always loved the Datsun brands and the models they made. 2 weeks ago, I was looking for B110 parts on the French equivalent of Craiglist, when I found a 1967 SPL311 to restore, the price was attractive then I sent it to my father. He always loved little British roadster, so it was pretty easy to convince him to buy it. The last week end we rent a tow truck to get the car (it was 500km away from us).
The roadster is a Canadian model which was imported in 2020. Obviously, for this range of price (4500€) we couldn’t expect a perfect example, but we were pretty confident because it was complete to some extent (missing spare tire and hubcaps..) Circa 2000’s, the car was badly restored (at least partially) with a lot of body filler on the left fender and some metal patchs to hide the rust. After some inspections, we figured out the fenders are mismatching. The previous canadian owners got some SPL310 parts (grille, tool kit, maybe some other parts but we didn’t find them yet)
The original early model fender (the left one) is very rusty but certainly reparable with enough labor time. So the questions is :
1) Do we replace the left fender, by a late model one
2) we repair the rusty one and buy the matching right fender (the one we have currently is also rusty, but seems easier to fix at first glance).

We would like to know your opinions about this choice.
We prefer the option 2.

We are very happy to own and restore a Roadster 😃 Which is very different from British Convertible, and not usual here, in France (probably 5 on the road in the whole country)

Bonjour et bienvenue à mon ami roadster (Ya, French is not my first language 😏)
Nice selection of Datsuns you have there; focusing effort on one over the other must be difficult.
Sooo … medium or large flares? Tough question.
I’m assuming your intent is not to build a ‘concours’ example but rather a nicely restored daily driver - n'est-ce pas?
Purists will say it’s sacrilege to mess with originality. Freethinkers will choose the style that best suits there creative needs and/or practical requirements - In other words, custom is good. What is the used SPL311 parts market like in France? That may help focus your decision.

I’m a fan of the larger flares simply for the aesthetic value, not for larger rims/tires, lowering, etc … I just think they look ‘right’, and they’re easier to come by. For each one of us with that opinion, there will certainly be one from the other camp of subdued flares and originality.

So, it comes full-circle back to you. Since you have the opportunity now to choose a style before restoration really starts, which one do you like? Pick one and carry-on! - It’s your ride. 😏
