Plugs on side of Head

After pulling the engine and trans out I discovered these two plugs on the side of the head. One on the back next to the big brass plug and the other one off to passenger side.
Do any of you engine guru's know why they are there?
TIA

The small one might be an overheat tell tale plug that an engine re conditioner could have fitted.
It tells the mechanic if you have ruined the engine by lack of coolant and thus voids any warranty claim.
Just a guess

I think they’re just expansion plugs from the casting process. Mine are just brass capped flush with the head.

thank you guys.
I wouldn't have guess that.
When I sell the car I guess I can claim this head has been reconditioned at one point in time.

I believe those are the ends of the oil passage holes to the rockers. Typically from the factory with a small brass plug.
Someone must have removed them to make sure oil passages were clear and drilled and tapped them for a bolt - better be a short bolt for the one on the back of the head.....both actually...
