Color and Width

Do you find this happening to you? A few weeks ago, a second roadster followed me home. I’m not sure exactly how it happened, or to be precise, how my significant other allowed it to happen. This one is another ’69 but has the competition package. A friend of a friend was moving to Cleveland and didn’t want the hassle of taking the roadster with him. He had taken it apart to get it painted so it was scattered. Not quite accurate, everything is labeled in baggies and boxes. New rubber from Dean for everything; windshield, vent windows, trunk, on and on. In fact in the first two boxes I looked, there were receipts from Dean totaling over $800. And that’s just the first two boxes. Dash had been redone by Just Dashes. When I inquired of them how much it would cost to do the dash on Linda’s ’69, I was told about $2K.
To shorten the story up, Linda likes the idea of another roadster. In fact, when I went with my tow dolly to pick up the car, she said to keep it on the dolly and take it to a painter.
Which is where it is now. Of course that means I’m having to decide what color to paint it. Linda isn’t fond of the original grey so that’s out. She saw a BMW Mini in a blue that she likes. I tracked it down to find that the color is Electric Blue Metallic, BMW paint code 870. Since she’s paying for the paint I guess I can live with the color. But we’re having, let’s just say “discussion” about what color stripes for the fenders. Fender stripes are a given but white or black? And how wide are the stripes? Opinions please.
And this better be the last roadster to follow me home, I’m already out of places to put them under cover.

Cool story!
Fender stripes, you mean like BRE style stripes? There is a layout with dimensions somewhere o the 510 sites, let me see if I can hunt it up.
I know for sure, when asked, that Pete Brock said, "the angle of the windshield", though he may have meant A-pillar. Those two are almost the same on the 510 but not on the roadster.

This is from BRE's open house, but is Paul Gabriel's car, very tastefully done.
(note the badges removed and the Datsun is pinstriped on the side, stripes are not all the way ghosted, but close)

You can license a tribute car from BRE if you want to duplicate the BRE color scheme.

This is Stan, the OP of this thread. Still looking for width of the stripes. And yes, the BRE style. The car ended up a new KIA blue color instead of the BMW color. Like I said, Linda paid for it so I can live with it. Fergus, did you find the link on the 510 site with the layout and diagram?

Looks like 6-1-6 layout on the 510. Stripe angle is at the angle of the A pillar, that comes direct from Pete Brock.

While some 67&1/2 2000’s and some latter Canadian cars along with, I believe, all of the Australian 2000’s came from the factory with it, the US dealers offered it as an accessory through the Datsun competition catalog. It consisted of the Solex carbs, the B cam, and the 7.5 quart aluminum oil pan.
