Wiper nuts - what size? Sources?

Post by andyb »

Are these things made out of pot metal?
Is anybody have any sizes for these?

I sent a reply, but I don't think it made it through.

I think you are dealing with a high windshield car. I have a low windshield car, which are different, so if that is the case, I can't help much.

The early nuts are chrome plated brass, & the pivots are pot metal.

I went through the same search earlier this year for my car & couldn't find nuts. I did find that the thread on the early pivots is very close to M16-1.0, but not quite. The nuts I purchased were stainless steel lock nuts, but they were about 2 times as thick as the original nuts & used a larger wrench than the originals. I had the nuts machined down to be the same thickness as the originals, & they worked for me. Time permitting, & access to a mill, I may cut them down so they will use the same wrench as the original. If your in need of these nuts, I have several sets spare. I'll sell a pair for $10 to help offset the cost & machining. If they don't fit your pivots, just send them back for full refund.

Peace,
Pat

Kidding aside, I suspect the "Made in" Country has changed to the usual suspects.

I also found the information in the wiki concerning the Moss nuts, so I ordered them. Nice nuts, but they didn't fit my 67.5. They are SAE threaded. I have a full bag of them if anyone wants to try one or two rather than buying them from Moss.

Peace,
Pat

The new price is a few cents higher, but these don't fit on a 68. Nut is too small by like 1/16.

Has anyone come up with a useable wiper pivot bezel replacement for 66-67.5? The angled part that sandwiches the rubbber gasket to the body and is held on by the nut?

Looking for 2....
Thanks!

We have correct chrome originals and will probably machine more from SS when/if we run out since none of the English car stuff is really correct for the early Datsun models - similar, but not correct as illustrated above. If we do, they will be a nice complement to BrianZ's SS WS rubber end clips.

US chrome is expensive these days as you know.

68-70 is entirely different yet again. (we have lots of those.) Lynn
